Tokyo Olympics 2020

 

After 2016, the Olympics was set to be held in 2020 but due to Covid it was held this year. Our country India qualified for the Olympics in Hockey, Wrestling, Badminton, Table Tennis, Boxing etc. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu opened India’s medal account by winning a silver medal in women’s 49 kg weightlifting. It was P.V Sindhu who won a medal after Mirabai Chanu in women single’s badminton. After losing to Tai Tzu-Ying in the semi – final, she became the contender of the bronze medal and she won the match against He Bing Jiao and bagged a bronze medal and became the first women to win two consecutive medals in Olympics. Lovlina Borgoahin, the girl from Assam won a bronze medal in women’s boxing. She was making her Olympic debut and won a bronze medal for India. She lost to Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey. After 41 years, the men’s hockey team qualified for the semi – finals but they lost the semi finals and became the contender for the bronze medal. They won the match against Germany and won the bronze medal. After 1980 Moscow Olympics, Indian men’s hockey team won a medal in Olympics. Then it was Ravi Kumar Dahiya who went for a gold but won a silver in Men’s freestyle 57 kg wrestling. He lost to Tigreros Urbano Oscar in the finals. Bajrang Punia also won a bronze medal in men’s 65 kg wrestling after Ravi Kumar Dahiya. He won by Kazakhstan’s Daulet Niyazbekov in the bronze medal match. Then it was the Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra who won gold in the finals of Javelin throw. He threw his javelin at 87.5 meters which was the longest in that match which kept him at the top of the table and he won a gold medal. It was the first medal of India in Track and Field events in the Olympics.
